Japan Matsuri returns to Trafalgar Square with a full day of Japanese culture, live performance, martial arts and food. The festival is free to enter and runs from 10am until 8pm on Sunday 4 October.

What is happening?

The 2026 festival promises new performers alongside returning favourites, Japanese food stalls and cultural displays. The organisers divide the programme across the main stage, martial-arts area and stalls around Trafalgar Square. Check the final timetable nearer the date if one particular act matters to you.

Food is sold rather than given away. A cheap visit is still possible: eat beforehand, bring water in an allowed container and concentrate on the free performances.

Entry rules worth knowing

Do not bring a bag larger than A4. Bikes, scooters, e-scooters, opened alcohol and animals other than assistance dogs are also prohibited. If Trafalgar Square reaches capacity, entry changes to one person in for every person leaving.
