Rent is usually a household’s largest monthly expense, but it rarely earns anything back. Ribbon Rewards, which is operated by Scraye, lets UK tenants collect points worth around 1% of each qualifying rent payment and exchange them for retailer gift cards.

How Ribbon Rewards rent cashback works

After a few account checks, you receive a dedicated Scraye Rewards account provided by Griffin Bank. Add your landlord or letting agent, then send your rent to the new account each month. Scraye forwards it to the right person and adds the points to your rewards balance.

Your landlord does not need to join Ribbon Rewards. Scraye says the landlord sees the rent arriving directly from an account in your name, just like a normal bank transfer.

You can set up a standing order, so after the first payment there is very little to do. Your normal job is simply to redeem the points when you have enough for a voucher.

Is the dedicated rent account safe?

The account is in your name and is provided by Griffin Bank Ltd, a regulated UK bank. Scraye says eligible deposits are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per person.

In everyday language, your rent is not being sent into an unknown wallet. It goes into a proper bank account in your name before being forwarded. More detailed questions about protection and payment problems are answered near the end of this guide.

How much cashback could you earn on rent?

At the standard rate, every £1,000 of qualifying rent earns 1,000 points, currently worth £10 in gift cards.

Monthly rent Standard monthly value Standard annual value First year including £25 bonus
£1,000 £10 £120 £145
£1,500 £15 £180 £205
£2,000 £20 £240 £265
£2,500 £25 £300 £325

If the home is a qualifying Scraye property, the published rate is 1.5 points per £1. On £1,500 monthly rent, that would be worth about £22.50 a month or £270 a year in vouchers, before any introductory bonus.

Rewards can currently be exchanged for brands including Amazon, Asda, John Lewis, Apple, Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Ryanair and Hotels.com. Available retailers and minimum voucher values vary. The catalogue currently includes rewards starting at £10 for some brands, while others begin at £25 or another amount.

How to get the £25 Ribbon Rewards bonus

  1. Open the Ribbon Rewards invitation.

Start through the referral link and check that the offer is shown.

  2. Enter the referral code.

Use DENID5D5 if the code has not been added automatically.

  3. Complete the account checks.

Ribbon will ask for basic personal and financial details to open the rent account in your name.

  4. Add the correct rent recipient.

Copy your landlord’s or agent’s details carefully and verify them against your tenancy records.

  5. Make the first rent payment.

For peace of mind, send the first one a little early and check that it arrived.

  6. Check for 2,500 points.

After the payment qualifies, confirm that the £25 worth of bonus points has appeared before choosing a voucher.

Is Ribbon Rewards worth using?

For a tenant who already pays by bank transfer, the standard account can turn a necessary expense into useful vouchers without adding a tenant fee. The value can be meaningful in London, where monthly rent is often high.

Pros

  • Rewards worth about 1% of qualifying rent at the standard rate.
  • The landlord or agent does not need to participate.
  • No standard joining or earning fee for tenants.
  • Useful gift-card brands and a £25 introductory reward.
  • The dedicated account is in the tenant’s name and provided by a regulated bank.

Cons

  • Rewards are gift cards rather than flexible cash.
  • You need to set up a new route for your rent payment.
  • You must complete the normal checks needed to open an account.
  • Voucher thresholds and participating brands can change.
  • It is worth checking that the first payment arrives correctly.

Our view is simple: if you already pay rent by bank transfer, Ribbon is an easy way to get something back from money you were going to spend anyway. Set it up carefully once, then enjoy the monthly points.

Ribbon Rewards questions

Does my landlord need to join Ribbon Rewards?

No. Scraye says the standard rewards account works with any UK landlord or managing agent, and the payment arrives from an account in the tenant’s name. The higher 1.5-point rate applies to a Scraye property.

Is Ribbon Rewards the same as Scraye?

Ribbon is the tenant rewards programme operated by Scraye. Current official pages increasingly use the name Scraye Rewards, while the referral site and existing accounts may still use Ribbon Rewards.

Can I redeem the rewards as cash?

The published rewards catalogue is based on retailer gift cards. Treat the percentage as gift-card value rather than cash unless your account explicitly shows a cash option.

When do I receive the £25 bonus?

The current invitation states that 2,500 points are awarded after the first qualifying rent payment. Check the offer attached to your account because referral terms can change.

Is the Griffin account protected by FSCS?

Scraye says eligible deposits in its Griffin-provided Rewards Accounts are covered up to £120,000 per depositor. FSCS eligibility and aggregation rules apply, so review the current information sheet if you hold other money with the same banking group.

What should I do if a rent payment does not arrive?

Contact Ribbon or Scraye support and tell your landlord or agent straight away. Keep the transfer receipt and your normal landlord payment details. This is unlikely to be part of your monthly routine, but it is useful to know what to do.

What happens if Ribbon Rewards changes or closes?

The rewards could change or stop, but you can return to paying your landlord directly. Before changing the payment route, check that no rent is still being processed and update any standing order.
