Verify who is requesting the document, share only what is needed and use the organisation’s official secure channel. Some checks require a clean copy, so ask before adding a watermark.
Why add a watermark to an ID copy?
A specific watermark gives a copied document context. Wording such as “FOR ABC HOTEL CHECK-IN ONLY — 10 AUG 2026” makes the intended recipient, purpose and date visible if the file is later separated from the original conversation.
It does not encrypt the file, hide personal information or prevent determined editing. Read our guide to sharing a passport or ID copy more safely before sending sensitive information.
