You can split it across eligible accounts, as long as the total is £1,000 or more.

Which Chip accounts count?
| Counts towards the £1,000 | Does not count |
|---|---|
| Instant Access Account | Chip Pension |
| Prize Savings Account | |
| Smart Cash ISA | |
| General Investment Account | |
| Stocks and Shares ISA |
If you want the bonus with no market risk, use a savings account rather than an investment account. Investments can go down as well as up, so a £1,000 investment could be worth less than £1,000 after 90 days.
Is Chip safe?
Chip Financial Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Money in Chip’s savings accounts is held with its partner bank, ClearBank, and eligible deposits are protected by the FSCS up to £120,000 per person. That limit is shared with any other accounts you hold through ClearBank.
Investments are not covered by the FSCS in the same way as savings, and prize winnings in the Prize Savings Account are not FSCS protected.
Chip says there is no fee to open its savings or investment accounts. Some optional features, such as auto-saving plans, can carry charges, so check the app’s pricing before switching them on.
Who is this offer best for?
- Good fit: you have £1,000 of savings you can leave untouched for three months and are happy using an app.
- Think twice: you might need the money before the 90 days are up, or you would have to invest money you cannot afford to see fall in value.
- Not eligible: you have held a Chip account before. The bonus is only for customers who have never had a Chip account.
Compare it with other checked sign-up bonuses in our Beermoney guides, such as the Wealthify new customer bonus if you prefer a managed investment ISA.
