The normal offer is 55,000 points.

Who it is for: UK limited companies (LTD) and limited liability partnerships (LLP). You must be 18 or over and a director or member of the business. Amex also lists a personal income of at least £35,000, a UK business bank account and a permanent UK home address. Sole traders are not covered by this offer.

It is a charge card with a £650 annual fee. You can pay in full each month or use the Flexible Payment Option line of credit, where the purchase rate is 29.1% p.a. (variable).

Eligibility for the bonus: you must not currently hold a Business Platinum Card, or have held one in the last 24 months.

Business Gold: 60,000 points + £100 Selfridges

The cheaper business option. Through the referral link, The American Express Business Gold Card comes with 60,000 points plus a £100 Selfridges eGift Card (normally 22,000) when you spend £6,000 in three months. It has no annual fee in the first year, then £195 a year. This offer also ends 12 January 2027 and is for UK LTD and LLP businesses.

The Platinum Card: 100,000 points (ends 3 November)

For personal applicants, The Platinum Card referral offer is 100,000 Membership Rewards points (normally 55,000) when you apply by 3 November 2026, are approved and spend £6,000 in your first three months.

Main benefits listed by Amex:

  • Access to more than 1,550 airport lounges in 140+ countries
  • Up to £200 a year in dining credits at selected UK restaurants, and a further £200 abroad (enrolment required)
  • Platinum Wellness benefits across lululemon, Oura and Calm, which Amex values at up to £350 a year combined
  • Worldwide travel insurance for you and Supplementary Cardmembers, including partners and dependent children under 25, for trips up to 90 days
  • Hotel benefits through Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, such as upgrades and late check-out when available
  • Higher-tier car rental loyalty status with Avis and Hertz (enrolment required)
  • 1 point per £1 on purchases and 2 points per £1 on amextravel.co.uk

Amex lists a minimum income of £35,000 a year and no history of bad debt.

Eligibility for the bonus: you must not have held a personal Membership Rewards-enrolled American Express Card in the previous 24 months.

Representative example: Purchase rate 29.1% p.a. (variable). Annual fee £650. Representative 685.3% APR variable, based on an assumed credit limit of £1,200.

The APR looks extreme because the £650 annual fee is counted against a small assumed credit limit. It shows how costly the card is if you do not use the benefits.

British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card: 31,000 Avios

Get the referral bonus

  1. Open the referral link first.

Use our American Express referral link. The referral cannot be added after you have applied.

  2. Pick your card.

The link opens on the Business Platinum Card. To choose another card, click “View all Cards with a Referral Offer” and switch between Personal Cards and Business Cards.

  3. Check the bonus on screen.

Make sure the referral offer you expect is shown before you continue. Take a screenshot.

  4. Apply before the deadline.

3 November 2026 for the Platinum Card, 12 January 2027 for Business Platinum and Business Gold. Approval is subject to status.

  5. Hit the spend target in three months.

Your three months start when your application is approved, not when the card arrives. Only use spending you had planned anyway.

Who gets the bonus?

The rules differ by card. Amex says you may still be approved without qualifying for the bonus, so check this before you apply.

CardYou do not get the bonus if, in the last 24 months, you have held…
Platinum CardAny personal Membership Rewards-enrolled Amex card
Preferred Rewards Gold, Rewards, BA Credit Card, CashbackAny personal Amex card
BA Premium PlusA personal British Airways Amex card
Business PlatinumA Business Platinum Card (including one you hold now)
Business GoldAny Amex Business Card that earns Membership Rewards points (including one you hold now)

Because the business offers only look at business cards, holding a personal Amex does not by itself stop you getting the Business Platinum or Business Gold bonus. You still need an eligible LTD or LLP business and to pass Amex’s checks.

All applicants must be 18 or over with a UK bank account and a permanent UK home address.

What are Membership Rewards points worth?

It depends on how you use them. On the referral page, Amex’s own example says 50,000 points can get £225 in statement credit, £225 towards flights booked on American Express Travel, £225 at Amazon.co.uk or £250 in gift cards from selected retailers.

You can also transfer points to airline and hotel partners such as British Airways Executive Club and Emirates Skywards, or use them with PayPal Pay with Points. Transfers to airline schemes can give more value if you are flexible with reward flights, but taxes and charges still apply.

Fees, interest and the catch

These bonuses are only worth it if three things are true:

  • The spend target is spending you would do anyway. £12,000 in three months is about £4,000 a month. £6,000 is about £2,000 a month. Do not buy things just to hit the target.
  • You pay in full every month. Interest at 29.1% p.a. (variable) on any balance you carry will quickly cost more than the points are worth.
  • You can justify the annual fee. £650 for Platinum or Business Platinum is a lot of money. The lounge access, travel credits and insurance only offset it if you would actually use them.

Not every business accepts American Express, so check that your regular bills and suppliers can be paid by Amex before you plan your spend.

Only apply if the card suits your circumstances. Applying for credit can affect your credit file, and approval is not guaranteed. New to the UK? Read our guide to building a UK credit score first.
