ASSEMBLY brings work by 35 members and fellows of the Royal Society of Sculptors to Hypha Gallery South Bank. The exhibition is free to visit from Thursday 8 October to Sunday 15 November 2026, opening Thursday to Sunday from noon to 6pm.

What will you see?

The exhibition gathers artists working with very different materials and scales. Expect conventional objects alongside installations, moving image, performances and work that responds directly to the gallery’s architecture.

Themes across the show include ecology, identity, migration, labour, landscape and memory. The variety is the point: ASSEMBLY is intended to show how broad contemporary sculptural practice has become, rather than impose a single theme or visual style on all 35 artists.

The London exhibition follows an earlier presentation in Sunderland and opens during Frieze season. The South Bank setting puts the work close to larger institutions while keeping admission free.

Private view and extra events

The private view takes place on Monday 12 October from 6pm to 9pm. Hypha Studios lists it separately through its booking platform, so reserve a place if you want to attend that evening.

The submitted programme also includes artist conversations, informal tours, performances, felting, biomaterials and sculpture-making demonstrations on selected dates. Some have limited capacity and require booking. Check Hypha Studios’ current ticket listings before travelling because individual session availability and any workshop charges can change.

Getting there

London Bridge is the nearest Underground station, roughly 500 metres from the gallery. Borough and Southwark stations are also within walking distance. The venue is on Southwark Bridge Road, close to the junction with Southwark Street.

This makes the exhibition easy to combine with a free walk around Bankside, Tate Modern’s collection displays or Borough Market. Purchases at the market and ticketed exhibitions elsewhere still cost extra.

Access and practical details

Hypha Studios does not publish a detailed access guide for Gallery 3 on the exhibition page. Contact the venue before visiting if you need confirmation about step-free entry, seating, accessible toilets or other adjustments.

The main exhibition is a walk-in event, but groups should contact the gallery in advance. Opening is limited to Thursday through Sunday, so do not make a special journey on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday unless you hold a booking for a separate event.

Is ASSEMBLY free?
Yes. Both Hypha Studios and the Royal Society of Sculptors list free admission to the main exhibition.
Do I need to book?
No booking is advertised for an ordinary exhibition visit. The private view and some talks or workshops have separate reservations and limited capacity.
Is the gallery open every day?
No. The advertised opening pattern is Thursday to Sunday, noon to 6pm, from 8 October to 15 November 2026.
Is it suitable for children?
The organisers have not published a general age restriction for the exhibition. Adults should supervise children around freestanding or floor-level sculpture and check individual workshop rules before booking.
How long should I allow?
Allow about 45 to 75 minutes for the main exhibition. Set aside longer if you are attending an artist tour, performance or workshop.
