How to pay less for a Christmas meal

  1. Book early in the season. ASK’s three courses for £24.95 only applies until 6 December.
  2. Check whether you need the third course. At most of these chains, dessert adds £3 to £5 a head. PizzaExpress charges £5 for it.
  3. Watch the drinks. A round of festive cocktails can add a lot to the bill. Bundles like Cosy Club’s three bottles of Prosecco for £100 work out cheaper for groups than ordering by the glass.
  4. Check the service charge. Set menu prices don’t usually include service, and many London restaurants add an optional 12.5%.
  5. Not set on turkey? A regular meal can be cheaper than a festive menu. Our First Table guide explains how to get 50% off your food bill by booking an early table, and our cheap eats guide has more ways to save.
