Did you know that adding a 10p SIM card to your Amazon basket could actually make your order cheaper?
Amazon UK sometimes offers 5% off when you buy four qualifying items, and they do not all need to be expensive. A £55.98 pack of coffee pods plus three 10p SIM cards could come to around £53.47. That is a saving of £2.51, even after paying for three extra items.
Here is how the trick works, which cheap products to try and how to check whether you will actually save money.
What is Amazon’s “Save 5% on any 4” offer?
Amazon UK runs a multi-buy promotion giving 5% off when you buy at least four qualifying units in a single order. Shoppers often call it “buy 4 get 5% off” or “buy more, save more”. On eligible product pages it shows as “Save 5% on any 4 qualifying items”.
There is no voucher code to enter. Amazon applies the discount automatically once your basket meets the promotion’s conditions.
Not every product qualifies, though. Amazon can run several promotional groups at once, and the products must belong to the same offer. Buying four random Amazon products will not necessarily trigger the discount.
The trick: add three cheap SIM cards
Here is a real basket. When we checked on 20 October 2026, this variety pack of 100 Nespresso-compatible coffee pods (opens in a new tab) cost £55.98 and showed “Save 5% on any 4 qualifying items”. So did the 10p VOXI SIM card. Add three of those SIM cards and you reach four items.
| Your basket | Price |
|---|---|
| Coffee pod variety pack | £55.98 |
| 3 × VOXI SIM cards | £0.30 |
| Subtotal | £56.28 |
| 5% discount | -£2.81 |
| Final basket | £53.47 |
| Total saving | £2.51 |
The saving works because the 5% comes off the whole qualifying basket, including the main purchase, while the extras cost only a few pence.

Cheap filler items for Amazon’s 5% off
A filler item is a cheap product you add to your basket only to reach a promotion’s quantity, here four items. You may know the idea from topping up a basket to reach free delivery. A good filler item for this offer:
- costs as little as possible, ideally a few pence;
- is in the same “Save 5% on any 4” promotion as the item you actually want;
- is sold or dispatched by Amazon, so it does not add a delivery charge;
- has no subscription or ongoing cost, so it costs nothing after checkout.
SIM cards tick most of those boxes because some cost just a few pence. Here are four inexpensive options we checked on Amazon UK.
| Product | Price when checked | Link |
|---|---|---|
| VOXI SIM card | £0.10 | Buy on Amazon the VOXI SIM card (opens in a new tab) |
| SMARTY SIM card #1 | £0.14 | Buy on Amazon the SMARTY SIM card #1 (opens in a new tab) |
| SMARTY SIM card #2 | £0.45 | Buy on Amazon the SMARTY SIM card #2 (opens in a new tab) |
| SMARTY SIM card #3 | £0.50 | Buy on Amazon the SMARTY SIM card #3 (opens in a new tab) |
Prices were checked by hand on 20 October 2026. They are reference prices, not live ones, and can change or sell out.
We have not confirmed that any of these SIM cards is in a “Save 5% on any 4” promotion right now. Check on the product page that it is part of the same offer as your main item, and that Amazon lets you buy the quantity you need.
Before buying a SIM card, also check for any activation steps, subscriptions or recurring payments. You do not have to activate a SIM you buy only to complete a multi-buy, but read the listing so there are no surprises. If you do want a new plan, our SMARTY new customer offer guide explains its referral gift card.
How much could you save?
Here is what three 10p qualifying items could do at different basket sizes:
| Main purchase | Final basket | Net saving |
|---|---|---|
| £10.00 | £9.78 | £0.22 |
| £25.00 | £24.03 | £0.97 |
| £50.00 | £47.78 | £2.22 |
| £100.00 | £95.28 | £4.72 |
| £200.00 | £190.28 | £9.72 |
All examples assume the main purchase and the three 10p items qualify for the same 5% offer, with no extra delivery charges. Half a penny of discount is rounded up here, so Amazon’s checkout may differ by a penny.
If you are already buying two or three qualifying items, you need fewer extras and the saving is a little bigger. Use the calculator above to try your own numbers.
How to get Amazon’s buy 4 get 5% off discount
Unlock the Amazon multi-buy discount
- Find the product you want.

- Open the promotion details.
See which other products are in the same offer.
- Top up to four units.
Add enough inexpensive qualifying items to reach four.
- Check your basket.

Include delivery before paying.
If the discount does not appear, do not place the order assuming Amazon will apply it later.
Why the trick sometimes does not work
- Different promotional groups: products advertising a similar discount might not qualify together.
- Quantity limits: Amazon may restrict buying several identical items.
- Price changes: cheap SIM cards can go up in price or sell out.
- Delivery charges: extra shipping fees could wipe out the saving.
- Other offers: some promotions cannot be combined.
- Returns: Amazon may adjust your refund if you cancel or return qualifying items.
- Availability: Amazon can change or withdraw the promotion at any time.
The offer applies to eligible products sold by Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon, and it does not work with 1-Click orders.
Other Amazon multi-buy offers worth checking
Amazon UK also runs bigger multi-buy promotions, such as Buy 10, Save 5% and Buy 15, Save 10%. Each has its own list of qualifying products and its own terms, so the cheap SIM card trick in this guide may not work with them. Some of these promotions also apply the discount only to the lowest-priced qualifying items when you buy more than the required quantity, so check the basket before paying.
Is this Amazon trick worth it?
If you are already planning to buy something on Amazon, checking the “Save 5% on any 4” promotion can be worthwhile. The trick works best when you are buying a relatively expensive qualifying item and can find inexpensive products in the same offer.
But do not buy unnecessary items just to chase a discount. Always compare the final basket total and make sure the saving is genuine. The goal is simple: spend less on what you already wanted to buy.
