What is happening?
The event is called The 170th Aperitivo, marking 170 years of the Italian tomato brand Cirio. The outdoor square will be dressed like an Italian piazza, with deckchairs, olive trees and an oversized Cirio tomato can.
Food is the main draw. Fresh pizza made with Cirio tomatoes and Italian-inspired drinks are advertised as complimentary. A live DJ will play throughout the celebration, and a vintage photo booth offers a printed keepsake.
There are also all-ages games. Tomato Plinko offers the chance to win Cirio merchandise, while the Giant Cirio Can Challenge involves throwing balls at targets to collect points and prizes.
What is actually free?
The event, pizza, drinks, games and photo booth are advertised as free. Food portions, drinks and prizes are likely to depend on availability, so arriving earlier is sensible if the complimentary pizza is your main reason for visiting.
Battersea Power Station’s restaurants, shops, paid attractions and parking are separate and cost extra.
Getting there cheaply
The closest station is Battersea Power Station, in Zone 1 on the Northern line. Follow signs through the development towards the riverside and Power Station Square.
Battersea Park railway station is about a ten-minute walk away. Queenstown Road is approximately 15 minutes on foot. Uber Boat stops beside the Power Station, but Tube or rail will usually cost less if you are already using a daily fare cap.
The outdoor public areas are step-free. Battersea Power Station also offers accessible toilets, lifts and Blue Badge parking, although parking is charged at the standard rate.
