Denmark Street Sessions turns London’s historic music street into a free one-day festival on Saturday 5 September. Live bands, acoustic sets, DJs and talks run concurrently inside its music shops, record store, bars and clubs from 1pm until after midnight.

What you can see

The afternoon begins at 1pm with a talk at Regent Sounds Studio about Denmark Street’s place in British music. From 2pm, the programme spreads across the street with live performances and discussions at Rough Trade, BRAT, Thirteen, Moonrays, Dawsons, Roland, Wunjo Guitars and Regent Sounds.

Useful programme highlights include:

  • 2pm: Giacomo Balaes at Rough Trade; blume at BRAT; a music-photography talk at Thirteen
  • 3pm: Orphy Robinson’s Stevie Wonder listening session at Moonrays; Cam & friends at Dawsons; a music-management panel at BRAT
  • 3.30pm: boogie-woogie pianist Henri Herbert at Roland
  • 4pm to 6.30pm: short live sets across Rough Trade, BRAT, Regent Sounds and Wunjo Guitars
  • 7pm: jazz, Latin and rare groove on vinyl at Moonrays
  • 9pm: reunited indie-punk band The Dash at Thirteen
  • 11pm: Pink Juice at Thirteen, followed by the midnight after-party

Plan before you go

This is not one continuous outdoor concert. Performances happen inside independent venues with limited capacities, and some start at the same time. Choose two or three priorities from the official programme and leave room to explore whatever has space.

The 2pm music-photography talk asks visitors to RSVP by email, while Thirteen recommends booking for its later programme. Other shop performances are presented as free walk-in sessions, but arriving early is sensible.

Is every venue free?
The organiser describes the festival as having free entry to all participating venues. Food and drinks are extra, and capacity or booking rules vary between venues.
Is it suitable for children?
The daytime shop performances and talks may suit older children interested in music. The late-night bar and club programme is adult-oriented; check each venue’s admission policy before travelling with under-18s.
Can I attend every performance?
No. Several sessions overlap and the venues are small. Treat the programme as a menu and choose your priorities rather than trying to see everything.
